F/E Week 12 Celebration - Cycle 2

We completed our week 12 in community a few weeks ago & it was JAM PACKED with allllll of the things! This is my first year directing F/E & it has been such a fun experience!

We had several fun things planned for week 12 & it was a busy day for everyone. It was our last day for F/E - which included our tin whistle concert, planetarium for science, community Medieval Feast with guest appearance, essentials scavenger hunt review, & essentials auction! Since it was super busy - I wanted to give a quick overview of what our day looked like to show how everything flowed.

  • 9am - F/E Assembly

  • 9:30-9:45 - Tin Whistle Concert (post coming soon!)

  • 9:45-12 - Foundations

    • We did our Planetarium as part of our science - so I had each of my Foundations Tutors take a 15 minute time slot (more on this later). We also shared our planetarium with our Challenge students that afternoon! You're never too big to enjoy some of the extra fun!

    • At 11:30, myself and a few parent volunteers started plating food for our Medieval Feast. (again...more on this later)

  • 12-12:30 Medieval Feast

    • Guest Performance by Fellowship of Christian Swordsmen while we ate!

  • 12:45 - My 2 Essentials tutors & I start putting up the posters for our Essentials Scavenger Hunt - Super Fun Review Game (Available in my store!)

  • 1pm - 1:10pm - Get everyone settled & explain the rules of our scavenger hunt! I also passed out materials.

  • 1:10-2:15 - Scavenger Hunt Review

  • 2:20-3pm - Essentials Auction

WHEW! Yes, I know... its a lot! The day was CRAZY busy, but we had a great time! I am BEYOND blessed with my community and that's the only way we were able to pull off such a full day! Everyone helped out with all of the moving parts and it worked out great.

Check out some of the pictures below to see what our day looked like! Stay tuned for further posts on the specific moving parts of our week 12 & how you can do this at your community too!

Tin Whistle Concert

  • Each class took turns playing their piece of music. Each tutor chose a song for them to play. Most did Christmas songs, but a few of them played the Cycle 2 song, and our Abecedarian class sang the tin whistle song after playing a "D" note in unison. Tailoring to each classes ability & level was super important and it worked out great. The parents enjoyed it and the kids had a great time! It was a beautiful presentation of their skills from the previous 6 weeks of music theory & learning to play an instrument.

Planetarium - Science

  • My tutors & I built the inflatable planetarium from NASA's website & it was SUCH a fun addition to their day! We learned about constellations, created constellations with glow in the dark stars on black card stock, and then took them inside the planetarium to see them glow! They also listened to the reading of Genesis 1 from the astronauts in the International Space Station while they were in the planetarium. I had a constellation & planets projector set up in there as well.

Medieval Feast & Show

  • During lunch, we had a campus wide Medieval Feast (potluck) and a guest appearance from the Fellowship of Christian Swordsmen while we ate.
